Vitalik Buterin, CEO of Ethereum, revealed his investment portfolio in a post shared on Reddit. Buterin’s post was in response to a Redditor’s query that read, “Should Ethereum follow the academic model of COI disclosure?”
The Redditor adds that the question is directed at all Ethereum developers and this disclosure will prevent “false accusations” against them. Sadly, only three developers including Buterin joined the discussion and revealed their crypto and fiat investments.
Looks like Buterin has quite a few crypto investments! In the post, he mentions that the non-Ethereum ecosystem tokens he holds are less than 10% of hid Ethereum holdings. His non-Ethereum ecosystem crypto token holdings include Bitcoin [BTC], Bitcoin Cash [BCH], Dogecoin [DOGE] and ZCash [ZEC]. He also has some non-ETH Ethereum ecosystem tokens including Kyber [KNC], Maker [MKR], Augur[REP] and OmiseGo [OMG] listed on his investment portfolio.
Apart from crypto investments he declared “significant corporate investments” in Clearmatics and Starkware. Clearmatics is an R&D company which develops blockchain protocols for financial market infrastructure while Starkware is a company dedicated to improving scalability and privacy of blockchains. Buterin’s Starkware investment doesn’t come as a surprise as Ethereum developers are constantly trying to improve the scalability of the network.
He also shared details of his revenue over the past 12 months. He said that apart from the salary from Ethereum Foundation his advisory role for the tokens he has investments in. He mentioned a few other projects which he has no financial interests in which includes token projects he discussed above.
“Non-financial interests: friends in the ecosystems represented by the above projects, as well as some non-token Ethereum ecosystem orgs (eg. L4, Plasma Group, EthGlobal, EDCON) and non-token non-Ethereum orgs (mainly professional cryptography and economics circles),” wrote Buterin.
In response to Buterin’s revelation, some Redditors commented that it is not possible to check the truth of the revelations. Some were worried about him being over-invested in cryptocurrencies.
